Founded in 2020 by Sebastian Haapahovi and a small group of golf enthusiasts who were frustrated by the high retail prices of traditional golf equipment, Takomo Golf was established with the goal of making premium-quality clubs available to everyday golfers through direct-to-consumer sales. The company is located in Turku, Finland. To accomplish this mission, the founders decided to eliminate middlemen, allowing them to sell directly online and offer an alternative to forged irons and wedges that traditionally sell at retail prices hundreds of dollars higher than Takomo's pricing. The design philosophy of Takomo Golf is Nordic in nature—simple, functional, and long-lasting—in addition to being focused on producing models that will last a golfer many years rather than creating frequent product cycles. Within a short period of time after launching, Takomo Golf gained popular recognition throughout the golf community as a company that offered affordable and quality performance products. Takomo Golf's 101 series irons are directed toward beginning and higher handicap players, while its 201 series is directed toward serious golfers looking for accuracy and feel. Currently, Takomo Golf is expanding its products line while establishing its international presence, while continuing to adhere to its tenets of providing golf equipment accessible to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay for premium quality clubs.
With regard to the design of the Takomo 101 irons, it was evident that the company had in mind two areas: the New Golfers in terms of their Forgiveness (ease with which they can gain height and distance), and how those golfers might progress to becoming regular players on the course. Through the use of cavity-back (CC) technology along with a combination of strong loft angles and a visually pleasing design, CCs make it easier for new golfers to reach the same heights and distances that current players achieve. Plus, the use of a wider sole and perimeter weight helps to provide a stable base for the golfer's clubhead to deliver a consistent ball flight, even when the player may not have made solid contact with the ball. Therefore, whether a player is just starting out or has already established a solid level of playing ability, the Takomo 101 irons provide the ability to play at a significantly higher level than would otherwise have been achievable without these types of clubs.
The Takomo 201 Irons are a forged iron design made for golfers who have begun to hone their skills and want more feedback and control in their swing; these irons emphasize precision and feel. Designed so that players can shape shots and control the trajectory of their shots; therefore, they will create a softer, more responsive feel at impact, allowing golfers to understand and make adjustments in their swings. They are still forgiving (although not as forgiving as 101s) but reward golfers for hitting the ball cleanly with greater accuracy and workability. The 201s feature a sleek profile that appeals to more traditional-looking players, making them an excellent choice for players looking for a step up from purely distance and forgiveness to master their finesse and control. The 101 and 201 Irons provide new golfers with a roadmap on how to start with confidence and forgiveness and, as their skills improve, progress to greater precision and artistry.
