About Leo

Leo on my Shoulder

I adopted Leo at the North Little Rock Animal Shelter on September 16, 2021, when he was only a month old (estimated). Prior to that date, I've only been seeing shelter cats in person for one day. Leo was one out of many cats that I have seen at the two shelters I went to. I love cats very much, I always have and will, and it made me sad that I could not have adopted many of them. I was torn between two cats at that time, so some factors had to come into play. One being that I wanted a male cat because I've heard they can be a bit more loving (and 2 out of 3 of my previous cats had been males). Two was that I wanted a younger cat, which Leo was. I remember looking up at him and seeing him trying to fit his tiny head in between the bars of the cage, trying to squeeze out, so that's when I decided to open his cage. What he did next, however, was the deciding factor. He cried at me and stepped closer to the bottom edge of the cage like he was about to jump out at me. I remember picking him up and crying thinking, "This is the one. This is the cat that I want."

When we got Leo, the woman at the shelter said that he was about six to eight weeks old. I think I believed that for a little bit, but the more my mom and I looked at him, we found that he was much younger than the estimated six weeks that we were told he was. Leo was very small. "He is as small as a Coke can!," my mom always said, and, occasionally, I would find Leo kneading and suckling on a blanket. We looked more into it, and decided that he was only around three to four weeks old!

Fast-forwarding to the present day, Leo is doing great. He is very spoiled and gets kissed on the head daily. If I had the chance to go back in time and pick another cat to take home, I wouldn't.
